By bus that was easy for her to say. I was also exited, and a bit scared, to be frank a lot scared. I mean who wouldn’t be scared to do this for the first time. Luckly I am in a skirt and blouse. If I had worn a saree I would have messed up. I am fine with the saree, I do all household work wearing it, but going out, that’s an entirely different story. As at home there wouldn’t be others. Others as in outsiders, no one stares at me at home, when people look at me I get suspicious, I get scared thinking that there is some mistake in the way I am dressed. I was feeling different things, both positive and negative.

“Get used to it” she said. And I got used to it, when I stopped concentrating, it became normal. After sometime I got used to it, they were being normal. As we reached the bus stop it was all fine. Then came the next challenge, it was the bus, not one of those new hop in type buses, it was one of the old model, where you got to climb three step to get on board. I managed to climb up without falling. This time people looked at me suspiciously, I knew it, she also knew it. It was because the way I was carrying the skirt to climb up. She smiled and said. “You get used to it with time.” Luckily the bus was not that crowded. And there were many free seats so were took a seat near the back.

At that time I started to get worried about the working women, who dressed up in sarees, take crowded buses at rush hour to get to work and same when coming back.
